I started following the NBA the 2003-2004 season and not only was it the last time the Knicks made the playoffs but it was also the year the underdog Detroit Pistons of Auburn Hills beat out the veteran squad of Shaq, Kobe, Karl Malone, Rick Fox, & Gary Payton for the championship. Every season since then up until about this one, I, as I'm sure many others have as well, have looked for a repeat performance from our boys from Mo-town. Unfortunately due to changing in coaching staff and numerous trades, the Pistons have no been able to bring another championship home and now they get beat last night at home by the injury riddled Boston Celtics to make the series 3-0. Does this bother anyone else?

In down-town montreal I hit up St. Catherine street, which is known for it's high class store's in particular I hit up this cool "Upperground" street wear boutique called "Off the Hook" They carried a bunch of different labels from Undefeated to Stussy....shit was G. In 1992, Mount Vernon hip-hop duo Pete Rock & CL Smooth released their debut album Mecca and the Soul Brother on now nonexistent Elektra Records. The first single off the album They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.), was inspired by the death of their close personal friend Troy Dixon (better known as " Trouble" T. Roy of Heavy D & the Boyz) in mid July 1990. The song did not garner initial success but has gone on to be a hip-hop classic and a personal favorite here at HypeTricity. When I first started getting into hip hop I hated Cam'ron, 40 Cal, and all of Dipset. I did not count them as real artists because I thought the way they flowed on their tracks was not "rapping". To me they were just talking shit over base heavy instrumentals and it sounded terrible. Eventually not only did I begin to enjoy their music, but realized it was rapping but just another way of doing it. It's a great example of why we here at HypeTricity, love not just hip hop but all types of music. Music is music. It's ill. Un-Common Without Kanye

Chi-town legend, Lonnie Lynn dropped his eighth album yesterday on Geffen Records and G.O.O.D. Music. The album was slated to be released under a different title back in June, but was pushed back due to Common's filming obligations for the new Terminator. Fortunately(at least to us. Well not fortunately but it is not the worst thing that can happen.) Common was unable to get long time fan, Kanye West behind 95% of the production on the album. To most this would be a bad thing but after reviewing the album in its entirety, we have claimed it a great thing. With Kanye, almost every track had the same laid back beat with Common's laid back flow over it that left you with the feeling it would be an ill song to smoke a blunt to or fall asleep to. By leaving off Kanye, Common has the same laid back flow we all know and love but over beats that leave you feeling energized and hype enough that you could go work out while listening to it. Since Common and West started working together in 2004, everything Common put out went at least gold, but was never regarded by anyone we knew, as albums to keep in your car or stereo for weeks on end. Be and Finding Forever were both very good albums, but like the San Antonio Spurs, they were just good but very boring. With heavy production from The Neptunes, every track is upbeat, uptempo, and more importantly, good. Universal Mind Control looks to become one of Common's best albums and a personal favorite here at HypeTricity. Let us know what you think!
